Superliga de Baloncesto's main board allowed the incorporation of two new franchises for the upcoming 2021 edition of the SLB, set to begin in March, by making official the approval of Trotamundos de Carabobo and Indios de Caracas.
With these two additions, the league now grows to 18 franchises from the original group of 13 that played in the 2020 season, since the SLB board also announced the addition of Heroes de Falcon, Taurinos de Aragua and Cocodrilos de Caracas back on January 25th.
Trotamundos, just like Cocodrilos, is a former LPB franchise with a rich history as one of the most acclaimed organizations, including international club titles. Meanwhile, Indios is a brand new team which will be based in Caracas, the capital of the country, sharing the space with other teams like Spartans Distrito Capital, Broncos and Cocodrilos, as well as neighbor state Diablos de Miranda and Supersonicos de Miranda.
The SLB has also revealed that with this new structure, the "bubble format" will no longer be played at a single venue. Aside of Margarita's Ciudad de La Asuncion Arena, a second bubble will be held at Jose Joaquin Carrillo Arena in Caracas. Teams will be split into Conferences.
Venezuelan journalist Rowerth Goncalves has reported that Trotamundos could be coached by Venezuelan Alfredo Madrid and could pursue the signing of SF Anthony Perez (206-F-93, college: Ole Miss), who used to be a part of their LPB structure and recently played for Guaiqueries de Margarita in the SLB 2020.
Meanwhile, Indios would be coached by Venezuelan Ivan Garcia .
