SLB Round 2: Supersonicos are defeated by Gigantes- April 7, 2021
There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in SLB. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Gladiadores - Spartans 57-91 Very expected game when Gladiadores were crushed at home by Spartans 91-57 on Monday. Spartans had a 29-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. International swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) scored 19 points to lead the charge for the winners and international point guard Jose Sojo (180-96) chipped in 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Point guard Humberto Bompart (183-94) responded with 11 points and the former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) scored 8 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Spartans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Heroes. Hosts were defeated by Gigantes 82-66. Gigantes forced 23 Supersonicos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-82, agency: Pro Sports) scored 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Edwin Mijares (186-92) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Gigantes' coach Carlos Gil used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Colombian power forward Luis Almanza (196-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and Evert Bernal (195-96) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Gigantes is looking forward to face Indios in Caracas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Supersonicos will play on the road against Guaiqueries in Porlamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Broncos dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Diablos' 32. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Guard Alexander Morillo (180-92) notched 20 points and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort and naturalized Colombian Hector Diaz (192-92) supported him with 13 points and 4 assists. Five Broncos players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from downtown making all seven shots !!!) by the former international forward Tulio Cobos (197-86, college: Northeastern St.) did not help to save the game for Diablos. International forward Anyelo Cisneros (198-97) added 20 points and 12 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. The best player for the winners was international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) who scored 20 points and 7 assists. International forward Jose Ascanio (204-96) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) produced 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Miguel Marriaga (205-84) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Guaiqueries will meet at home Supersonicos in the next round. Trotamundos will play against Taurinos and hope to win that game. The former international point guard Harold Cazorla (175-91, agency: Promo Sport ID) scored 20 points, 6 assists and 6 steals to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Dominican power forward Jhoyfer Diaz (200-87) chipped in 17 points during the contest. Bucaneros' coach Nestor Salazar allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. International swingman Raymond Rada (194-97) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Neill Ojeda (190-90) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds. Bucaneros will face Gladiadores in the next round where they are favorite. Brillantes will play against Diablos and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Cocodrilos dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Heroes' 30. Cocodrilos had a 33-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Heroes' players. The former international point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86, agency: Pro Sports) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points and 9 assists. The former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) contributed with 7 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Kevin Nino (195-91) replied with 18 points and naturalized Colombian Jackson Zapata (198-85) added 13 points in the effort for Heroes. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cocodrilos' next round opponent will be Llaneros.
