SLB Round 10 of Regular Season

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

SLB round 10 most important game was a victory of Gladiadores over 5th ranked Llaneros 70-64 on Thursday night. They outrebounded Llaneros 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Humberto Bompart (183-94) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 assists. The former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Guard Jesus Tovar (183-90) replied with 16 points for Llaneros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gladiadores (4-5) moved-up to fifth place. Llaneros at the other side dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Gladiadores' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Spartans.
Another exciting game for Spartans (8-1) which played in Caracas against Cocodrilos (7-2). First ranked Spartans won 88-83. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Cocodrilos. It was a key game for the top position in the league. International swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Yohanner Sifontes chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86, agency: Pro Sports) responded with 19 points and 4 steals. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-1 record. Cocodrilos at the other side keep the second place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Spartans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Gladiadores.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Margarita: Centauros (#6) and Supersonicos (#3). Supersonicos were defeated at home 58-68 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Supersonicos. Luis Germany notched 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort. Centauros' coach Derek Baker used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by Luis Almanza did not help to save the game for Supersonicos. Centauros (4-4) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Indios. Loser Supersonicos keep the third position with four games lost. They share it with Gigantes. Centauros will meet at home Indios (#5) in the next round. Supersonicos will play against Gigantes in Puerto Ordaz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Caracas: Broncos (#3) and Brillantes (#8). Broncos (7-2) won against visiting Brillantes (1-8) 80-71. Hector Diaz fired 17 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Brillantes' coach Henry Paruta rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Broncos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Brillantes lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with eight games lost. Broncos' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Diablos.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Trotamundos (7-2) against fifth ranked Gigantes (5-4) on Thursday night. Host Trotamundos were crushed by Gigantes in La Asuncion 79-60. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Trotamundos. It was a very good performance for Luis Duarte who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes moved-up to third place, which they share with Supersonicos. Loser Trotamundos keep the second position with two games lost. Gigantes will face Supersonicos (#4) in Margarita in the next round. Trotamundos will play on the road against the league's leader Guaiqueries in Porlamar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Winless Cangrejeros were beaten by Condores on the road 81-73. Taurinos lost to undefeated Guaiqueries on its own court 59-76. Diablos managed to outperform Heroes in Caracas 87-73.
The most impressive performance of 10th round was 26 points and 7 rebounds by Rafael Perez of Heroes.

Trotamundos - Gigantes 60-79

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Trotamundos (7-2) against fifth ranked Gigantes (5-4) on Thursday night. Host Trotamundos were crushed by Gigantes in La Asuncion 79-60. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Trotamundos. They outrebounded Trotamundos 48-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for swingman Luis Duarte (190-94) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Edwin Mijares (186-92) contributed with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Power forward Carlos Milano (198-85) replied with 4 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Trotamundos. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes moved-up to third place, which they share with Supersonicos. Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Margarita: Centauros (#6) and Supersonicos (#3). Supersonicos were defeated at home 58-68 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Supersonicos. Luis Germany (195-95) notched 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern) supported him with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
