The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Trotamundos - Gigantes 60-79 Very important is a home loss of second ranked Trotamundos (7-2) against fifth ranked Gigantes (5-4) on Thursday night. Host Trotamundos were crushed by Gigantes in La Asuncion 79-60. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Trotamundos. They outrebounded Trotamundos 48-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for swingman Luis Duarte (190-94) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Edwin Mijares (186-92) contributed with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Power forward Carlos Milano (198-85) replied with 4 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Trotamundos. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes moved-up to third place, which they share with Supersonicos. They outrebounded Llaneros 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Humberto Bompart (183-94) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 assists. The former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Guard Jesus Tovar (183-90) replied with 16 points and center Carlos Rodriguez (206-89) added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Llaneros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gladiadores (4-5) moved-up to fifth place. Llaneros at the other side dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Supersonicos were defeated at home 58-68 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Supersonicos. Luis Germany (195-95) notched 18 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Dominican guard Kelvin Pena (193-80, college: Southeastern) supported him with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four Centauros players scored in double figures. Centauros' coach Derek Baker used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds by Colombian power forward Luis Almanza (196-91) did not help to save the game for Supersonicos. Evert Bernal (195-96) added 12 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Centauros (4-4) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Indios. Spartans made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Spartans had a 37-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Cocodrilos were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. International swingman Pedro Chourio (186-90, agency: Pro Sports) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and international guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-95) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds during the contest.
