SLB Round 12: Cocodrilos beat Llaneros in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#2) and Llaneros (#7). Llaneros were smashed at home by 27 points 65-92 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Cocodrilos looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Elder Gimenez (186-91) who scored 21 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Jesus Tovar (183-90) who recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Cocodrilos (9-2) keep a position of league leader, which they share with Spartans. Llaneros lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Another interesting game was again a derby between two teams from Caracas: Diablos (#4) and Brillantes (#8). Diablos (8-3) won against visiting Brillantes (1-10) 63-59. It was a good game for international forward Anyelo Cisneros (198-97) who led his team to a victory with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Jhon Romero contributed with 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Neill Ojeda (190-91) replied with 6 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists for Brillantes. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Diablos maintains fourth position with 8-3 record. Brillantes lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with ten games lost. An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Caracas. Third ranked Gigantes faced one of their biggest challengers Indios. Guests from Puerto Ordaz (7-4) defeated host Indios (5-5) 85-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Indios. Worth to mention a great performance of Luis Duarte who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Gigantes' coach Carlos Gil used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Cesar Silva with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Gigantes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-4 record having four points less than leader Spartans. Indios at the other side keep the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with Centauros. Gigantes will meet at home Condores (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Indios will play against the league's leader Guaiqueries (#1) in Porlamar and hope to secure a win.

Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-2 record, which they share with Cocodrilos. Heroes lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with ten games lost. Spartans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Llaneros.
Undefeated leader Guaiqueries recorded the eleventh consecutive victory on Wednesday night. This time they beat 5th ranked Supersonicos (5-6) 80-76 in Margarita. The best player for the winners was Jose Ascanio who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Undefeated Guaiqueries (11-0) have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 11 victories in a row. Supersonicos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with six games lost. Guaiqueries will face Indios (#4) in Caracas in the next round. Supersonicos will play on the road against the league's second-placed Trotamundos in La Asuncion and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 12 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Centauros defeated Condores in Margarita 80-62. Gladiadores were smashed by Bucaneros at home 52-76. Cangrejeros won against Taurinos on the opponent's court 74-68.

Heroes - Spartans 48-87

Leader Spartans delivered the ninth victory. This time they crushed 9th ranked Heroes (1-10) 87-48 in Caracas. Spartans forced 19 Heroes turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 2 passes made by Heroes' players. The winners were led by international center Windi Graterol (204-86, agency: Pro Sports) who scored that evening 13 points and 8 rebounds and the former international forward Lenin Lopez (198-91) supported him with 13 points and 5 assists. Five Spartans players scored in double figures. Even 11 points by Colombian Yocsy Colina (187-90) did not help to save the game for Heroes. Swingman Kevin Nino (195-91) added 6 points and 6 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. There was no surprise in Margarita where 9th ranked Condores (1-8) were defeated by sixth ranked Centauros (5-5) 80-62 on Tuesday. Centauros outrebounded Condores 40-28 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Condores' players. The best player for the winners was the former international Jose Bracho (190-98) who scored 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Luis Germany (195-95) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Four Centauros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Lisandro Duarte (185-1) who recorded 14 points and 7 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and power forward Erick Rodriguez (201-99) added 4 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Centauros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Indios. Loser Condores keep the ninth position with eight games lost. Centauros will face Cangrejeros (#7) in Maturin in the next round. Cangrejeros dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Taurinos' 30. They outrebounded Taurinos 40-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international swingman Jorge Rondon (193-90) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Edixon Figueroa (187-94) chipped in 11 points. Four Cangrejeros players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Michael Flores (192-85) who recorded 17 points and 4 assists and forward Jesus Rodriguez (200-93) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively.
