Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Venezuelans who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an experienced international point guard
Gregory Vargas (182-86, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup). He led his Israeli team
Hapoel Haifa to a victory against Enisey
85-80 in the FIBA Europe Cup in Wednesday night's game.
Vargas had a double-double by scoring 12 points and making 13 passes. He also added 4 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Hapoel B-Cure Laser Haifais placed in the FIBA Europe Cup.
It's Vargas' first season with the team.
Vargas has relatively good stats this year: 13.5ppg, 4.0rpg, 9.5apg, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 78.6% in two games he played so far.
Ex-Protectores de Miranda BBC player is currently a member of the Venezuelan senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international center
Gregory Echenique (206-90, agency:
Pensack Sports, college:
Creighton, currently plays in Japan). He led
Hiroshima Dragonflies to a victory over the sixth-ranked Levanga Hokkaido Sapporo (0-1)
83-75 in the Japanese B1 League last Saturday.
Echenique was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 16 rebounds. It was his first game for Hiroshima Dragonflies this season.
in group West. His team are placed second.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Echenique played for the Venezuelan national team in 2019.
#3. The Venezuelan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward
Luis Valera (202-88, college:
UTRGV, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the 16th-ranked Socuellamos (0-3) crushing them
79-54 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night.
Valera scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 17 minutes.
in Group B. Lujisa Guadalajara Basket (3-0) is placed first.
So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Valera averages: 9.0ppg, 6.0rpg, 2FGP: 33.3%, 3FGP: 22.2% and FT: 75.0% in three games.
He played for the Venezuelan national team six years ago.
#4. Point guard
Angel Lugo (181-99, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Carolinas (0-1)
87-72 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) in Saturday night's game.
Lugo scored 7 points. It was his first game for Molina this season.
in Group E-C. His team is placed second.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Lugo has a dual citizenship: Venezuelan and Spanish.
He used to play for the Venezuelan U16 national team
back in 2015.
The list of other players, who all have Venezuelan passport but never been selected to any of Venezuelan national teams: #1. Wilmer Peraza (194-C-90, currently plays in Spain). Peraza could not help
Azulejos (1-0) to beat FC Barcelona Lassa 2nd team (1-0).
He scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in only 14 minutes. It was his first game for Azulejos this season.
The first-placed Azulejos (1-0) was badly defeated
63-47 at home by the leading FC Barcelona Lassa 2nd team in the Group C-3.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
#2. Experienced
Franger Pirela (187-F-2, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 15th-ranked Venta de Banos (0-3) crushing them
93-53 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night.
Pirela scored 7 points and added 3 assists.
in Group A-A. Grupo Eleyco Baskonia B team (2-1) is placed fifth.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Pirela's overall stats this season are: 9.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 1.7apg and 1.3spg.
