Spartans - Guaiqueries 85-79 There was a minor upset in Caracas where much higher ranked Guaiqueries (5-4) were defeated by fifth ranked Spartans (2-6) 85-79 on Saturday. American Craig Sword (190-1994, college: MSU) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Will Davis II (203-1992, college: UC Irvine) chipped in 23 points during the contest. Spartans' coach Nestor Salazar used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American-Nigerian swingman Tanksley Efianayi (198-1994, college: UCF) responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds and the former international power forward Francisco Centeno (203-1985) scored 15 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Spartans moved-up to fourth place. Guaiqueries lost third consecutive game. They keep the second position with four games lost. American Erik McCree (202-1993, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Pensack Sports) scored 21 points to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman Jordan Williams (198-1992, college: N.Texas) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists during the contest. Guaros had a 37-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Rwandan center Prince Ibeh (208-1994, college: Texas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points, 20 rebounds and 8 blocks. The biggest surprise took place in Caracas where host Heroes (5-4) beat league's leader Brillantes (6-3) 75-70 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Brillantes. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Heroes made 7 blocks. Dominican point guard Richard Bautista (185-1997) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. British center Kavell Bigby-Williams (211-1995, college: LSU) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Ingram is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Taurinos players scored in double figures. At the losing side Argentinian guard Julian Ruiz (185-1998) responded with 28 points and 6 assists and American forward Lance Thomas (206-1999, college: USA, agency: Haylett Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds.
