Marinos de Anzoategui (SPB) inked experienced 37-year old former Venezuelan international 200cm forward Luis Bethelmy for the upcoming SPB 2024 season via trade from Cocodrilos de Caracas.
Bethelmy and Carlos Lemus (190-G-1999, college: UTEP) will play for Marinos, while Cocodrilos will get Franger Pirela (187-G/F-2002), Emiro Hernandez (188-PG-1994), Leunan Diaz (194-SF-1996) and Johandryt Mendoza (201-PF-1998).
Bethelmy played last summer at Carrib.Storm in Colombian Liga Wplay. He managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In three Liga Sudamericana games he recorded 4.0ppg, 7.3rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg.
Bethelmy also played for Cafeteros (Liga Wplay) in Colombia where in 22 games he averaged 12.5ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.9apg and 1.2spg. He helped them to make it to the Colombian LPB Clausura final after they ended regular season as second best team.
The other team he played that season for was Cocodrilos in Venezuelan SPB. In 33 games he had 11.7ppg, 5.8rpg, 2.5apg and 1.4spg. Bethelmy contributed to his team ending the regular season as at the second position in the league. Great season indeed as he was voted to Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Honorable Mention.
He also represented Venezuela at the World Cup in China five years ago. His stats at that event were 4 games: 4.8ppg, 3.0rpg.
Bethelmy is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Argentina (Gimnasia), Mexico (Halcones Rojos, Jaguares and Libertadores), Puerto Rico, Uruguay (Defensor), Venezuela (Guaros de Lara 2nd team, Guaros, Yaracuyanos, Guacharos and Centauros), Dominican Republic (Indios) and Colombia (Guerreros). Bethelmy won Liga Americas championship title in 2016 and 2017. He selected toLatinbasket.com All-Venezuelan LPB Most Improved Player of the Year back in 2008 and 2009.
He'll go Marinos alongside a young Venezuelan prospect, Carlos Lemus, while Cocodrilos will get Franger Pirela, Emiro Hernandez, Leunan Diaz and Johandryt Mendoza in return.
Pirela is currently playing in Spain while Hernandez, Diaz and Mendoza are experienced LPB and SPB players.
