SPB round 11 most important game was a victory of Cocodrilos over 4th placed Heroes 59-57 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Heroes. Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 5 rebounds. Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993, agency: BMS Sport Agency) contributed with 8 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American Andre Nation (196-1993, college: JMU) answered with 16 points for Heroes. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cocodrilos (5-2) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Heroes at the other side keep the fourth position with three games lost. Cocodrilos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Diablos.
Important game to mention about took place in Maracaibo. Sixth ranked Gaiteros (3-4) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging 4th placed Piratas (4-4) 77-74 on Sunday evening. It was a great evening for American swingman Micheal Warren (196-1995, college: CSUN) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 6 rebounds. Viny Okouo helped adding 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dominican guard Juan Suero (196-1993, agency: BMS Sport Agency) responded with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gaiteros maintains sixth place with 3-4 record. Piratas lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Gaiteros will play against higher ranked Heroes (#4) in Caracas in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piratas will play at home against Guaiqueries and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
SPB top team - Marinos (7-2) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Centauros (2-5) in Margarita 73-69. It was a quality performance for Landers Nolley II who led the winners and scored 22 points. Isaac Thornton came up with 25 points for Centauros in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Marinos maintains first place with 7-2 record, which they share with Trotamundos. Loser Centauros dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Marinos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Centauros will play against Panteras (#8) in Caracas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 11: Brillantes were beaten by Trotamundos on the road 85-80. Llaneros lost to Frontinos on its own court 67-71. Diablos unfortunately lost to Panteras in Caracas 66-70.




Trotamundos - Brillantes 85-80

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Trotamundos (7-2) beat 5th ranked Brillantes (2-4) in La Asuncion 85-80 on Sunday. Trotamundos made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for American-Portuguese Jeremiah Wilson (205-1988, college: Tarleton St., agency: BIG) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 5 rebounds. Naturalized American Donta Smith (201-1983, college: SE Illinois JC) accounted for 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. American forward Glen Rice Jr (198-1991, college: Georgia Tech) came up with 25 points and the other American import forward Marquez Letcher-Ellis (203-1997, college: Nevada) added 16 points and 13 rebounds respectively for Brillantes in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Trotamundos. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Marinos. Loser Brillantes keep the fifth place with four games lost. Trotamundos will meet at home Frontinos (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Brillantes will have a break next round.

Frontinos outrebounded Llaneros 45-31 including a 39-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Lamonte Bearden (191-1995, college: WKU) who led the winners and scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Cesar Silva (190-1981) accounted for 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Four Frontinos players scored in double figures. American forward Dion Wright (201-1993, college: St.Bonaventure) came up with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Colombian forward Yustin Llerena (195-2002) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for Llaneros in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Frontinos moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Llaneros. Llaneros lost their fifth game in a row. Frontinos will meet league's second-placed Trotamundos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. This time Panteras used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Caracas 70-66 on Sunday night. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Windi Graterol (204-1986, agency: Pro Sports) who led the winners and scored 8 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists.
