SPB Round 24 (Regular Season): Broncos defeat Trotamundos in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 24 in the SPB took place in Caracas. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-best Trotamundos (11-5) to fourth ranked Broncos (9-6) 100-98 on Tuesday evening. Broncos forced 23 Trotamundos turnovers. 24 personal fouls committed by Trotamundos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Jordan Williams (196-1992, college: N.Texas) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import forward Tyler Wilkerson (203-1988, college: Marshall) who added 23 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international center Nestor Colmenares (200-1987, college: Campbellsville, agency: Pro Sports) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Broncos moved-up to third place, which they share with Piratas. Trotamundos at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. They share it with Marinos.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#1) and Panteras (#7). Cocodrilos (13-3) won against visiting Panteras (5-10) 83-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Panteras. The winners were led by Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 19 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Anyelo Cisneros supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Cocodrilos' coach Luis Flores allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 14 points and 5 assists by guard Wilkerman Gomez (190-2001) did not help to save the game for Panteras. Cocodrilos have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-3 record. Panteras at the other side keep the seventh place with ten games lost.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Marinos (11-5) against fifth ranked Guaiqueries (8-7) on Tuesday night. Visiting Marinos were defeated by Guaiqueries in Porlamar 85-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marinos. The best player for the winners was Pedro Chourio who scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Edgaras Zelionis who recorded 18 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guaiqueries maintains fifth position with 8-7 record. Loser Marinos keep the second place with five games lost. They share the position with Trotamundos.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 24: Pioneros lost to Frontinos on the opponent's court 74-90. Toros were outscored by Spartans in a home game 76-97. Heroes managed to beat Centauros on the road 89-83. Gaiteros defeated Diablos on its own court 89-77.




Cocodrilos - Panteras 83-70

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Caracas: Cocodrilos (#1) and Panteras (#7). Cocodrilos (13-3) won against visiting Panteras (5-10) 83-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Panteras. Cocodrilos players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. There was a minor upset in Tachira where 4th ranked Pioneros (9-7) were defeated by seventh ranked Frontinos (6-10) 90-74 on Tuesday. The best player for the winners was American guard Lamonte Bearden (191-1995, college: WKU) who scored 25 points and 7 assists. The former international swingman Cesar Silva (190-1981) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American Tim Bond (201-1995, college: EMU, agency: BMS Sport Agency) who recorded 27 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import Will Daniels (202-1986, college: URI) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Frontinos maintains seventh position with 6-10 record. Loser Pioneros keep the fourth place with seven games lost.

Toros - Spartans 76-97

Rather predictable result in Maracay where sixth ranked Spartans (6-8) smashed 9th ranked Toros (2-13) 97-76 on Tuesday. Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Toros' 32. Spartans had a 27-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Will Davis II (203-1992, college: UC Irvine) who scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Dominican swingman Jassel Perez (195-2001, agency: BMS Sport Agency) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Jose Vargas (195-1982, agency: Pro Sports) who recorded 13 points and 5 rebounds and American guard Addison Spruill (195-1993, college: UNCW) added 9 points and 5 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Spartans maintains sixth position with 6-8 record. Toros lost eleventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 13 games lost.

Centauros - Heroes 83-89

Not a big story in a game in Margarita where 8th ranked Centauros (4-11) were defeated by fourth ranked Heroes (10-6) 89-83 on Tuesday. Heroes outrebounded Centauros 32-18 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Heroes especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.7 percentage. The best player for the winners was American Andre Nation (196-1993, college: JMU) who scored 22 points. Naturalized Colombian Luis Almanza (196-1991) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Emiro Hernandez (188-1994) who recorded 21 points and American guard Isaac Thornton (193-1991, college: Fairmont St.) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Heroes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Centauros lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 11 games lost.
