Luis Valera

Guaiqueries de Margarita (SPB) inked experienced 36-year old former Venezuelan international 201cm power forward Luis Valera (college: UTRGV). It is actually his comeback to Porlamar as he has played here before. Valera played recently at Lujisa Guadalajara Basket in Spanish Tercera FEB. In 23 games he averaged 14.1ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3apg last season.
He was a member of Venezuelan international program for some years. Valera was called to Venezuelan Senior National Team between 2010 and 2015 and previously for U18 National Team in 2005.
He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). Valera has played previously professionally also in Chile (Tinguiririca) and Venezuela (Marinos, Gaiteros, Gigantes, Aduaneros and Guacharos) and Spain (Azuqueca).
His team was regular season runner-up in Spanish EBA Group B in 2018.
He graduated from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2010 and it is his 15th (!!!) season in pro basketball. He played also for Marshalltown Community College for 2 years.
His game is described as: Valera is a versatile forward that can score inside as well as an excellent face up shooter. Luis is an extremely hard worker and was successful in a very competitive Iowa Junior College Conference.
