Carrera attempted to reach the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016. He was acquired via trade from Marinos de Anzoategui and in return, Spartans sent Yohanner Sifontes (192-G-1995) and Harold Cazorla (175-PG-1991, agency: Promo Sport ID) to Marinos. He has also been a member of the Venezuelan international program for some years. Carrera has regularly played for the Venezuelan senior team since 2012 and previously for the Under 16 National Team back in 2009. He also represented Venezuela at the FIBA World Cup in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia three years ago. During this event, he scored an average of 7.5 points per game and had 3 rebounds per game. Carrera is a highly experienced player, having played in ten different countries on four continents - Europe, Latin America, Australia, and North America. He has played professionally in Argentina (Obras), Australia (Taipans), Chile (Ancud), Germany (Bamberg and Hamburg Towers), Mexico (Soles and Diablos), Russia (Avtodor), Spain (Estudiantes, Gran Canaria, and Lleida), Uruguay, Venezuela (Guaiqueries, Marinos, Trotamundos, Supersonicos, and Gladiadores), and the NBA G League (OKC Blue). He played in the final of the Mexican LNBP in 2025 and was voted to the Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Honorable Mention in the same year. Carrera graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2016 and is currently in his tenth season as a professional player.
