SPB Round 15 (Regular Season): Marinos are upset by Trotamundos

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Marinos (6-3) and sixth ranked Trotamundos (6-3) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Marinos were defeated by Trotamundos in a tough game in Caracas 82-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Marinos. Trotamundos made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American Ricky Ledo (201-1992, college: Providence) who scored 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international swingman Jhornan Zamora (196-1989) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Senegalese-American center Malik Dime (206-1992, college: Washington, agency: Slash Sports) who recorded 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Marinos' coach Silvio Santander tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Trotamundos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Marinos. Trotamundos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Marinos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Heroes.
Bottom-ranked Piratas managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they won against tenth-ranked Centauros in La Guaira 97-83. And what about a second win in a row after ...seven consecutive losses. It was a good game for American Shabazz Muhammad (198-1992, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Yeison Colome contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Swingman Emilio Cappare (199-1990) answered with 14 points and 6 rebounds for Centauros. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas (2-7) moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Centauros. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Glen Rice Jr who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 8 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Wilkerman Gomez with 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brillantes maintains eighth place with 4-4 record. Panteras lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Piratas - Centauros 97-83

Bottom-ranked Piratas managed to get the second consecutive victory. This time they won against tenth-ranked Centauros in La Guaira 97-83. And what about a second win in a row after ...seven consecutive losses. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Centauros' 32 and made 17-of-20 charity shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Centauros 44-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American Shabazz Muhammad (198-1992, college: UCLA) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Dominican Yeison Colome (190-1996) contributed with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners.
