SLFB 2026 - Costaneras land Genesis Rivera, ex Sportiva

Costaneras de Puerto Cabello (SLBF) signed 30-year-old Venezuelan ex-international Genesis Rivera, a 180cm swingman from UMass. Rivera previously played for Sportiva in the Portuguese Liga Feminina, where she had an impressive season averaging 16.8ppg, 7.4rpg, and 1.6apg in 24 games. She also helped her team reach the Portuguese Cup Semifinals and was named League Player of the Week. In addition, Rivera played 2 games in Eurocup, averaging 9.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 1.0apg, 1.0spg, and 1.5bpg. Before that, she played for A.D. Sanjoanense in Liga Feminina.
Rivera was a member of the Venezuelan international program for some years. She played for the Venezuelan Senior National Team between 2015 and 2024 and previously for the Under 17 National Team in 2013.
She also represented Venezuela at the Olympic Games Pre-Qualifying Tournament in Medellin (Colombia) three years ago. During this event, she scored an average of 5.3 points per game and had 2.3 rebounds per game.
Rivera is a very experienced player, having played professionally in five different countries on three different continents thanks to pro basketball. She has experience in European, Latin American, and North American leagues, having played in Chile, Portugal (CP Natacao), Puerto Rico, Uruguay (Aguada), and Venezuela (Pastoras and Caribenas).
Among many awards, her team won the Venezuelan Superliga Regular Season in 2024. She was selected to the Latinbasket.com All-Chilean Liga Femenina Honorable Mention back in 2019.
Rivera graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 2019 and is currently in her seventh season in professional basketball.
