SPB Round 36 (Regular Season): Brillantes edge Pioneros by two points

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in SPB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 36 in the SPB took place in Caracas. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 7th ranked Pioneros (12-11) to eighth ranked Brillantes (11-12) 77-75 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Pioneros. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Elias King (203-2000, college: MTSU) who scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Myke Henry (198-1992, college: DePaul) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jarell Eddie (201-1991, college: Virginia Tech) who recorded 20 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brillantes have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain eighth position with 11-12 record. Pioneros at the other side keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Brillantes' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena Marinos.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Guaiqueries (15-8) against sixth ranked Marinos (13-9) on Sunday night. Host Guaiqueries were defeated by Marinos in Porlamar 70-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. It was a good game for American forward KJ McDaniels (197-1993, college: Clemson, agency: JCK Sports Group) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Gregory Vargas contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. Marinos' coach Nestor Salazar allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds for Guaiqueries. Marinos have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Marinos maintains sixth position with 13-9 record. Guaiqueries at the other side keep the third place with eight games lost. They share the position with Trotamundos and Spartans. Marinos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Brillantes.

In the last game of round 36 bottom-ranked Panteras were defeated by Piratas in La Guaira 79-69.



Guaiqueries - Marinos 58-70

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Guaiqueries (15-8) against sixth ranked Marinos (13-9) on Sunday night. Host Guaiqueries were defeated by Marinos in Porlamar 70-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. Piratas - Panteras 79-69

There was no surprise in La Guaira where 13th ranked Panteras (1-21) were defeated by eleventh ranked Piratas (7-14) 79-69. It was a good game for American forward John Hugley IV (206-2001, college: Duquesne) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import guard DeAndre Davis (188-1990) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Piratas players scored in double figures. The former international center Luis Carrillo (206-1993) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 15 rebounds and Australian forward Solomon Kuol (201, college: Lake Erie) added 24 points in the effort for Panteras. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas maintains eleventh position with 7-14 record. Panteras lost eighteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games. Piratas will play against higher ranked Diablos (#10) in Caracas in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Panteras' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Heroes.
