Regular Season Round 11: Lava SSW - Slam 78-99

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Slam's (4-6) road victory over 6th ranked Lava SSW (3-9) 99-78 on Sunday. Slam dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Lava SSW's 34. Slam forced 30 Lava SSW turnovers and outrebounded them 74-53 including a 37-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. Slam looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Dominican guard Shawn Thomas who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 29 rebounds and 5 blocks. Guard Andrew Venture accounted for 22 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists for the winning side. Five Slam players scored in double figures. Guard Lincoln Weekes came up with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Zuri Nesbitt added 21 points and 7 assists respectively for Lava SSW in the defeat. Slam maintains fifth place with 4-6 record. Lava SSW lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Slam will meet higher ranked Spanish Heat (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Lava SSW will play against the league's leader Flyers and hope to secure a win.
