Date: February 3, 2025
Not a big story in a game when 11th rankedPenarol (9-10) was edged by seventh ranked Union (11-8) in Mar del Plata 82-80 on Monday. Uruguayan point guard Marcos Cabot (180-1989) nailed 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Cuban center Pedro Bombino (206-2000) accounted for 13 points and 6 rebounds. Five Union SF players scored in double figures. American guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) came up with 19 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Lucas Andujar (185-1996) added 8 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for Penarol in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Union have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 11-8 record. Loser Penarol keeps the eleventh position with ten games lost. They share it with Ferro and San Martin. Union will meet Platense (#18) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Penarol will play against Atenas (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
