There was a small surprise when twelfth rankedPenarol (13-12) outplayed 9th ranked Olimpico (13-13) in Mar del Plata 90-58 on Wednesday. Penarol shot 61.0 percent from the field. Penarol had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Marcus Thomas (191-1995, college: Rosemont) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 4 assists. Point guard Victor Fernandez (180-1999) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. American forward Dischon Thomas (206-2000, college: Montana) came up with 15 points and point guard Guillermo Aliende (178-1997) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Olimpico in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Penarol moved-up to tenth place. Loser Olimpico dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost.
