Important game to mention about took place in Mar del Plata. Twelfth rankedPenarol (3-3) saved a 2-point victory at home edging higher ranked La Union (4-3) 76-74 on Sunday evening. The winners were led by American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) who scored that evening 21 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Luciano Guerra (184-1997) supported him with 18 points and 6 assists. Penarol's coach Leonardo Costa allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 14 points and 7 rebounds by the former international forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) did not help to save the game for La Union . American guard Brandon Beavers (188-2001, college: Lawrence Tech) added 7 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the guests. Penarol have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Quimsa and San Martin. La Union at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. La Union will play at home against Argentino (#19) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
