There was an upset in Santiago del Estero where higher rankedSuardi (5-4) was outplayed by fifteenth ranked Independiente (3-6) 105-79 on Monday. Independiente outrebounded Suardi 40-25 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Independiente shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 65.2 percentage. American forward Kobe Julien (198-1999, college: Arkansas St.) scored 31 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Cristian Amicucci (200-1985) chipped in 12 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Santiago Calderon (190) with 15 points and 5 rebounds and Pablo Osores (194-1986) scored 16 points. Five Independiente and four Suardi players scored in double figures. Suardi's coach Andres Poi gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Independiente moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Pergamino and Hindu. Loser Suardi keeps the seventh position with four games lost. They share it with Lanus. Independiente will meet at home higher ranked Barrio Parque (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Suardi will play against Estudiantes T. in San Miguel de Tucuman and hope to secure a win.
