There was a small surprise in Mercedes where twelfth rankedComunicaciones (13-14) beat 9th ranked Estudiantes T. (14-13) 81-71 on Tuesday. Spanish-Venezuelan swingman Franger Pirela (187-2002) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Tomas Allende (190-2002) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Comunicaciones' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Matias Bichara with 18 points and American forward Joe Hampton (203-1998, college: LBSU) scored 14 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Comunicaciones maintains twelfth position with 13-14 record. Loser Estudiantes T. keeps the ninth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Centenario VT. Comunicaciones will meet at home Las Heras (#17) in the next round where they are favorite. Estudiantes T. will play against Villa S.Martin (#8) in Resistencia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
