There was an upset in Cordoba where higher rankedInstituto (20-14) was defeated by eleventh ranked Penarol (17-14) 83-68 on Sunday. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Luciano Guerra (184-1997) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) who added 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The former international Tomas Monacchi (198-1997) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and naturalized Italian point guard Gaston Whelan (187-1994) scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Penarol moved-up to tenth place. Loser Instituto keeps the fourth position with 14 games lost. Penarol will meet Atenas (#18) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Instituto will play against Independ.O. (#7) and hope to secure a win.
