There was a surprise result in Mar del Plata where eleventh rankedPenarol (19-17) defeated higher ranked Ferro (21-16) 87-80 on Sunday. Penarol shot 24 for 43 from the free-throw line, while Ferro only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Ferro 41-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The former international center Ivan Basualdo (203-1990) had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Penarol's coach Leonardo Costa used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) responded with 20 points and 4 assists and Paraguayan center Leonel Bettiga (208) scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five Penarol and four Ferro players scored in double figures. Penarol maintains eleventh position with 19-17 record. Loser Ferro keeps the sixth place with 16 games lost.
