There was an upset when higher rankedVasco da Gama (5-5) was edged by fifteenth ranked Botafogo (4-7) in Rio de Janeiro 68-66 on Friday. The winners were led by American forward Fred Thomas (196-1993, college: MSU) who scored that evening 16 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Matheusinho Brito (183-2000) supported him with 15 points. Botafogo's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Even a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds by guard Matheus Eugeniusz (193-2000) did not help to save the game for Vasco da Gama . Rafael Paulichi (202-1998) added 19 points and 7 rebounds. Botafogo moved-up to twelfth place. Vasco da Gama at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Pinheiros.
