There was no surprise in Rio de Janeiro where 18th rankedFortaleza (6-16) was edged by eighth ranked Vasco da Gama (12-10) 75-74 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (205-1984) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and swingman Luiz Basilio (192-1991) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The former international power forward Renan Lenz (207-1990, college: Utah) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Sebastian Orresta (188-1993) scored 13 points and 4 assists. Fortaleza's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Vasco da Gama moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sao Jose. Loser Fortaleza dropped to the sixteenth position with 16 games lost. They share it with Botafogo.
