There was no surprise in Rio de Janeiro where 13th rankedSao Paulo (11-16) was defeated by seventh ranked Vasco da Gama (15-12) 88-78 on Saturday. Vasco da Gama made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (205-1984) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American point guard Jamaal Smith (184-1985, college: N.Mexico) who added 15 points and 4 assists during the contest. The former international Andre Bresolin (195-1987) responded with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Cordero Bennett (184-1988) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Vasco da Gama have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Sao Paulo keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost.
