Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Rio de Janeiro:Flamengo (#2) and Botafogo (#17). Botafogo was defeated at home 85-92 . Flamengo outrebounded Botafogo 37-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. Flamengo looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) who scored that evening 23 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Gui Pereira (192-1991) supported him with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Even 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) by Derick Machado (198-1996) did not help to save the game for Botafogo . Point guard Matheusinho Brito (183-2000) added 19 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Flamengo maintains second position with 22-7 record having just one point less than leader Minas. Botafogo lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventeenth place with 21 games lost.
