We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Rio de Janeiro where 16th rankedRio Claro (2-8) was defeated by seventeenth ranked Botafogo (3-8) 74-61 on Thursday. Botafogo outrebounded Rio Claro 34-23 including 23 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Matheusinho Brito who scored 32 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Power forward Augusto Alcassa (211-2000) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Gemadinha Sacco produced 29 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) and American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) added 11 points respectively for the guests. Rio Claro's coach Slobodan Nikolic let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Botafogo moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Cruzeiro. Loser Rio Claro dropped to the seventeenth position with eight games lost. They share it with Osasco. Botafogo will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Rio Claro will play against the league's leader Flamengo (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
