We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Cancun where 8th rankedPanteras (5-7) were defeated by ninth ranked El Calor (4-8) 80-74 on Thursday. American center Malik Toppin (206-1997, college: Salem) stepped up and scored 22 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import Max Landis (188-1993, college: PFW, agency: Promo Sport ID) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Toppin is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side Argentinian-American Erik Thomas (195-1995, college: New Orleans) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Senegalese center Serigne Barro (208-1995) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Panteras' coach Pascal Meurs rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Despite that victory El Calor went down to tenth position due to points difference. Loser Panteras keep the eighth place with seven games lost.
