There was a surprise result when eleventh rankedPioneros Los Mochis (2-5) beat at home higher ranked Venados (4-5) 104-87 on Friday. Los Mochis outrebounded Mazatlan 42-30 including 27 on the defensive glass. Los Mochis looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American players dominated the game. Center Arnett Moultrie (208-1990, college: MSU) nailed 23 points and 8 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winning side and guard Matthew Butler (188-1995, college: UT Martin) accounted for 17 points and 11 assists. Guard Taylor Johnson (193-1994, college: Dartmouth) came up with 19 points and 5 assists and Terrence Thompson (203-1994, college: Wake Forest) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Mazatlan in the defeat. Five Los Mochis and four Mazatlan players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Los Mochis moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Culiacan and Hermosillo. Loser Venados dropped to the sixth position with five games lost.
