Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Managua:Jaguares (#1) and Costa Caribe (#6). Costa Caribe was defeated at home 109-113 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Jaguares forced 29 Costa Caribe turnovers. Strangely Costa Caribe outrebounded Jaguares 69-57 including a 45-33 advantage in offensive rebounds. Jaguares players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 13 blocks. Costa Caribe was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by who had that evening a double-double by scoring 26 points, 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks and Puerto Rican guard Luis Lopez (182-1998, college: PR-Mayaguez) supported him with 32 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Even a double-double of 38 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 6 assists by Robiel Morales did not help to save the game for Costa Caribe . added 27 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Jaguares and four Costa Caribe players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Jaguares maintains first position with 11-1 record. Costa Caribe lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with nine games lost.
