Regular Season Round 17: Luqueno - Colonias 66-105

Bottom-rankedLuqueno (0-15) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 105-66 loss to second ranked Colonias (12-2) in Luque on Wednesday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Colonias dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Luqueno 's 30 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Colonias forced 22 Luqueno turnovers. stepped up and scored 16 points for the winners and chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Four Colonias players scored in double figures. The former international forward Fernando Dose (200-1994) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and American swingman Austin Wrighten (192-1996, college: Lynchburg) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Colonias have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 12-2 record behind leader Olimpia K. Loser Luqueno still closes the standings with 15 games lost.
