Eighth-rankedDefensor (9-10) gave a tough game to first ranked Penarol (17-2) in Montevideo on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 84-81 . However their fans expected much easier game. Guard Santiago Vescovi (191-2001, college: Tennessee) stepped up and scored 27 points for the winners and naturalized Italian swingman Nicola Pomoli (195-1999) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was center Theo Metzger (200-1999) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard Elijah Weaver (197-1998, college: Chicago St.) scored 19 points and 5 assists. Penarol maintains first place with 17-2 record. Defensor at the other side keeps the eighth position with ten games lost.
