Regular Season Round 8: Gladiadores - Guaiqueries 93-91

A very close game took place in Caracas betweenGladiadores and Guaiqueries . Sixth ranked Gladiadores (4-3) got a very close home victory over 9th ranked Guaiqueries (2-4). Gladiadores managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. Gladiadores made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Guaiqueries 40-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by international point guard Gregory Vargas (181-1986) who scored that evening 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Costa Rican-Belizean Charles Garcia (204-1988, college: Seattle) supported him with 20 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. Even 23 points and 6 rebounds by Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-1998) did not help to save the game for Guaiqueries . American Matt Mobley (194-1994, college: St.Bonaventure) added 18 points and 5 assists for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Frontinos. Loser Guaiqueries keep the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with Panteras and Brillantes.
