ABBA Round 9: Spanish Heat defeats Flyers in the closest game of the week

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in ABBA. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the ABBA took place in . This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th placed Flyers (7-4) to eighth ranked Spanish Heat (2-10) 66-64 on Saturday evening. Spanish Heat forced 30 Flyers turnovers. Strangely Flyers outrebounded Spanish Heat 62-48 including 22 on the offensive glass. Israel Pulinario stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 22 rebounds for the winners and Steven Matthew chipped in 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Selassie Brathwaite with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Spanish Heat moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Slam and Braves. Flyers at the other side keep the fourth position with four games lost. Spanish Heat will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Flyers will play against Slam (#7) and are hoping to win this game.
ABBA top team - Potters S. (11-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Ottos (4-7) 88-69. Welsh point guard Jacob Lloyd (183-1994, college: Harris-Stowe St.) nailed 21 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and Kelvin Simon accounted for 14 points and 13 rebounds. Potters S.'s coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Warren Bogle came up with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for Ottos in the defeat. Potters S. have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-2 record. Ottos lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. Potters S. will play against Stingerz (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Ottos will play against the league's second-placed Cutie Ovals and hope to get back on the winning track.
Third ranked Cutie Ovals (10-2) crushed at home 6th ranked Slam (2-10) by 59 points 108-49, which is the biggest margin this round on Sunday night. The best player for the winners was Kareem Edwards who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Cutie Ovals' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Olivee Morris who recorded 14 points. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Cutie Ovals. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Slam lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Braves and Spanish Heat. Cutie Ovals will meet at home Ottos (#5) in the next round. Slam will play against Flyers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: Braves was destroyed by Stingerz on the opponent's court 108-68. Cutie Ovals outscored Braves in a home game 87-39. Bottom-ranked Spanish Heat were rolled over Stingerz on the road 100-67.

Very expected game when 6th ranked Braves (2-10) were crushed on the road by second ranked Stingerz (10-3) 108-68 on Saturday. Stingerz dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Braves' 44. Stingerz forced 29 Braves turnovers and outrebounded them 78-54 including a 56-36 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Stingerz made 7 blocks.
