LDD Round 17: #1 Comunicaciones are defeated by Obras

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Comunicaciones (15-2) in Buenos Aires on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by eighth ranked Obras (10-7) 76-70. Obras outrebounded Comunicaciones 51-34 including 18 on the offensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Comunicaciones helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Venezuelan power forward Fernando Fuenmayor (201-0) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and forward Matias Von Schmeling (200-1) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. Obras' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Matias Nunez (191-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. Obras maintains eighth place with 10-7 record, which they share with Riachuelo LR. Comunicaciones at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. Obras is looking forward to face Platense (#18) in Florida in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Comunicaciones will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Corrientes. Third ranked San Martin (14-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Regatas (11-7) 80-79 on Sunday evening. Franco Mendez (188-2) nailed a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Rolando Vallejos accounted for 18 points and 11 rebounds. point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) came up with 25 points and 4 assists for Regatas in the defeat. San Martin moved-up to second place. Regatas lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
LDD top team - Comunicaciones (15-2) had no problems winning another game on Monday. This time they beat thirteenth ranked Ferro (7-12) in Buenos Aires 88-72. The best player for the winners was Matias Nunez who had a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. Santiago Mazza produced 21 points and 6 assists for the hosts. Ferro's coach rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Comunicaciones maintains first place with 15-2 record. Ferro lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Comunicaciones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Platense managed to outperform Gimnasia in a home game 77-73. Argentino recorded a loss to Olimpico on the road 91-76. Instituto defeated La Union on its own court 77-74. Gimnasia was smashed by Boca Jrs. in Buenos Aires 97-65. Quimsa destroyed Argentino at home 95-43.
