LDD Round 19: Top-ranked Comunicaciones win another game

LDD top team - Comunicaciones (16-2) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat seventeenth ranked Olimpico (5-15) in Mercedes 90-78. Comunicaciones maintains first place with 16-2 record. Olimpico at the other side keeps the seventeenth position with 15 games lost. Comunicaciones are looking forward to face Riachuelo LR (#8) in La Rioja in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Olimpico will have a break next round.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Union (11-13) and Penarol (8-11), which took place in Mar del Plata. Higher ranked Union was outleveled in a road game by fourteenth ranked Penarol 92-67. It was a great evening for point guard Lucas Anegon (180-2) who led his team to a victory scoring 30 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Nicolas Franco helped adding 16 points and 13 rebounds. Penarol's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Lorenzo Micheloni (195-1) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Penarol maintains fourteenth place with 8-11 record. Union lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Penarol will play against higher ranked Boca Jrs (#5) in Buenos Aires in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Union will have a break next round.
Another upset was a game between Union (11-13) and Ferro (9-12), which took place in Buenos Aires. Higher ranked Union lost to thirteenth ranked Ferro in a road game 60-74 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for Felipe Rodriguez who led the winners and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Ferro's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Jeronimo Muller came up with 19 points for Union in the defeat. Ferro maintains thirteenth place with 9-12 record. Union lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Ferro will meet at home San Lorenzo (#16) in the next round. Union will have a break next round.

Other games in round 19 were not that significant. Atenas was smashed by Regatas on the road 90-70. Riachuelo LR won against La Union on its own court 101-89. Instituto managed to outperform H.Americano in Cordoba 100-86. Obera rolled over Riachuelo LR at home 87-60. Atenas was defeated by San Martin on the opponent's court 87-77.

Regatas - Atenas 90-70

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Regatas (12-7) crushed 10th ranked Atenas (10-9) in Corrientes 90-70 on Friday. Regatas outrebounded Atenas 51-31 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Atenas' players. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Tobias Franchela (185-1) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Fabio Gauto (190-2) accounted for 24 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Regatas' coach let to play all 12 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Forward Jonatan Basualdo (198-99) came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Ignacio Segura (195-0) added 10 points respectively for Atenas in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Regatas maintains sixth place with 12-7 record. Loser Atenas keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. Regatas will meet at home Platense (#18) in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Atenas will play against La Union (#15) in Formosa and hope to secure a win.

Riachuelo LR dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to La Union's 38. It was an exceptional evening for point guard Yoel Cuenca (178-99) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Forward Lautaro Velasquez (200-2) accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Riachuelo LR's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Point guard Agustin Sigel (165-2) came up with 28 points and 7 rebounds and DR Congolese forward David Efambe (201-1) added 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) respectively for La Union in the defeat. Obera - Riachuelo LR 87-60

Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Riachuelo LR (11-8) was outscored on the road by fourth ranked Obera (15-5) 87-60 on Sunday. Obera outrebounded Riachuelo LR 48-31 including a 40-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Stefano Alesso (211-3) who led the winners and scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Santiago Konaszuk (188-99) accounted for 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Five Obera players scored in double figures.
