La Liga top team - Gimnasia (15-3) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat fifth ranked Olimpico (11-3) in Comodoro Rivadavia 82-72. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Olimpico. Gimnasia made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. 25 personal fouls committed by Olimpico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cuban forward Joaquin Mensia (198-1997, agency: Pro Sports) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. The former international Ivan Gramajo (193-1996) contributed with 17 points for the winners. American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) replied with 27 points and 5 rebounds for Olimpico. Olimpico's coach Leonardo Gutierrez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gimnasia have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 15-3 record. Olimpico at the other side keeps the fifth place with three games lost. Gimnasia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Olimpico will play on the road against Boca (#11) in Buenos Aires and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Quimsa (11-6) and Boca (8-8), which took place in Buenos Aires. Higher ranked Quimsa lost to twelfth ranked Boca in a road game 79-86. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Quimsa. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Marcos Mata (202-1986) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and Leonel Schattmann who added 21 points and 4 assists during the contest. American Brandon Robinson (196-1989, college: Clayton St.) responded with 25 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Boca moved-up to eleventh place. Quimsa at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Boca will play against higher ranked Olimpico (#5) in La Banda in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Quimsa will have a break next round.
Another upset was a game between Obera (13-5) and San Martin (9-4), which took place in Corrientes. Higher ranked Obera lost to tenth ranked San Martin in a road game 60-77 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Obera. The winners were led by Matias Solanas who scored that evening 19 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds by Charles Mitchell did not help to save the game for Obera. Obera's coach Fabio Demti tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win. San Martin moved-up to eighth place. Loser Obera keeps the fourth position with five games lost. San Martin will meet Argentino (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
