La Liga Round 3 of Regular Season

There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of La Liga and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

First defeat of Obras (3-1) against Ferro (2-1) 85-83 was the most important game of the last round. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-83. It was a good game for point guard Tomas Spano (183-1998) who led his team to a victory with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Alejandro Diez (201-1987) contributed with 19 points for the winners. The former international Marcos Mata (202-1986) answered with 23 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for Obras. Obras' coach Diego Vadell rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

An interesting game was also a 30-point surprising road loss of Boca in a game in Santiado del Estero versus undefeated Quimsa (#8) 97-67. It was an exceptional evening for Juan Brussino who led the winners and scored 17 points and 7 assists. Martin Cuello came up with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Boca in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Quimsa will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Boca will play against Penarol and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: Obera beat Argentino on the road 76-67. Quimsa won against Regatas on its own court 103-85. Independ.O. managed to outperform Zarate in Olivia 72-71. Olimpico rolled over Boca at home 93-74. Union defeated Argentino on the opponent's court 69-67. Riachuelo smashed Regatas in a home game 99-58.



Ferro - Union SF 72-77

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Ferro (2-1) in Buenos Aires. Hosts were defeated by Union (4-1) 77-72. Ferro was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for point guard Alejandro Konsztadt (190-1989) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points. Center Jose Alessio (203-1987) helped adding 14 points. Five Union SF players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Emiliano Lezcano (187-2001) with 20 points and swingman Felipe Rodriguez (195-2003) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Union will play against Platense (#20) in Florida in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Ferro will have a break next round.

Argentino - Obera 67-76

No shocking result in a game when Obera (2-0) beat Argentino (0-3) in Junin 76-67 on Wednesday. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Will Vorhees (203-1995, college: NDC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Agustin Brocal (191-1997) accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Vorhees is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Center Fernando Podesta (205-1992) came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds and naturalized American Johnatan Slider (192-1987) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Argentino in the defeat. Four Argentino players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Obera will meet at home Gimnasia (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Argentino will play against Penarol (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Very expected game when Regatas (1-3) lost to Quimsa (2-0) in Santiado del Estero 85-103 on Wednesday. Quimsa made 28-of-30 free shots (93.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Nicolas Romano (200-1987) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. The former international point guard Juan Brussino (185-1991) accounted for 11 points and 7 assists for the winning side. American center Myles Carter (206-1997, college: Seattle, agency: Worldwide SM) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Pablo Gramajo (193-1996) added 19 points and 5 assists respectively for Regatas in the defeat. Five Quimsa and four Regatas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. It was an exceptional evening for Rolando Vallejos (195-2000) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Enzo Filippetti (201-2001) accounted for 12 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Edgar Merchant (200-2002) came up with 22 points and point guard Lautaro Fraga (185-1992) added 16 points respectively for Zarate in the defeat. There was an upset when Boca (4-2) was outscored by Olimpico (2-2) in La Banda 93-74 on Thursday. It was an exceptional evening for Brazilian center Joao Franca (215-1998) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 14 rebounds. Jose Defelippo (186-1997) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. The former international point guard Jose Vildoza (191-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) came up with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and international swingman Martin Cuello (193-1993) added 11 points respectively for Boca in the defeat. Everything went according to plan when Union (4-1) edged Argentino (0-3) in Junin 69-67 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 69-67. It was an exceptional evening for American-Libyan swingman Tony Mitchell (198-1989, college: Alabama) who led the winners and scored 23 points. Point guard Alejandro Konsztadt (190-1989) accounted for 9 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Union SF's coach Maximiliano Seigorman used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Ezequiel Dupuy (185-1997) came up with 22 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and naturalized American Johnatan Slider (192-1987) added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Argentino in the defeat. Riachuelo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Riachuelo outrebounded Regatas 48-23 including a 39-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Valentin Forestier (194-2003) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Point guard Juan Corbalan (185-1998) accounted for 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Five Riachuelo LR players scored in double figures. The former international Pablo Gramajo (193-1996) came up with 13 points and American guard James Reese V (193-1998, college: S.Carolina) added 14 points respectively for Regatas in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
