La Liga Round 4 (Regular Season): Boca keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Boca as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Boca edged 10th ranked Penarol in Buenos Aires 83-81. Boca dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Penarol's 26. Boca had a 33-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Marcos Delia (209-1992) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 7 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) and the former international Sebastian Vega (200-1988) who added 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Boca's coach Gonzalo Perez used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Penarol at the other side keeps the tenth place with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Zarate has registered their first victory this season after two consecutive losses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Penarol (2-4) 87-82 on Wednesday. Julian Aprea fired a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Al Thornton produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Zarate (1-2) left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place. Loser Penarol keeps the tenth position with four games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Penarol won against Argentino on the opponent's court 83-81. Instituto managed to outperform Atenas in a home game 87-74. Winless Platense recorded a loss to Union on the road 103-96. Obera defeated Gimnasia on its own court 76-72. Gimnasia was beaten by San Lorenzo in Almagro 78-74.



Argentino - Penarol 81-83

Very expected game in Junin where bottom-ranked Argentino (0-3) was edged by tenth ranked Penarol (2-4) 83-81 on Monday. American forward Al Thornton (203-1983, college: FSU, agency: BIG) fired 27 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Victor Fernandez (180-1999) chipped in 18 points. Four Penarol players scored in double figures. Penarol's coach Hernan Laginestra used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Swingman Manuel Gomez (-1996) produced 21 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) and Ramiro Frontera added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Penarol maintains tenth position with 2-4 record. Loser Argentino still closes the standings with three games lost. The former international Eric Flor (190-1993) produced 35 points (!!!) and 5 assists and American forward Nick Banyard (203-1994, college: UCF, agency: Octagon Europe) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Union have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Instituto. Loser Platense still closes the standings with four games lost. Union will meet La Union (#16) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Platense will play against Ferro (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
