LDD Round 38 (Regular Season): Independ.O. is defeated by Riachuelo

The games are now more important than at the beginning of the Regular Season. We may still expect few shocking results in upcoming 8 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in La Rioja between second ranked Independ.O. (24-5) and sixth ranked Riachuelo (20-7) on Monday night. Independ.O. was defeated by Riachuelo in a tough game on the road 94-103. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Independ.O.. Riachuelo made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Independ.O. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Jeremias Barco (-2005) scored 30 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Joaquin Fernandez (189-2003) chipped in 23 points during the contest. Riachuelo LR's coach Gonzalo Castillo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Jorge Garcia (200-2003) responded with 29 points and 6 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Riachuelo moved-up to fifth place. Independ.O. at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Riachuelo are looking forward to face league's leader Regatas in Corrientes in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Independ.O. will play on the road against Olimpico in La Banda and is hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Almagra. Ninth ranked Instituto (15-10) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 14th ranked San Lorenzo (11-14) 67-66 on Monday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Jeronimo Guerrero (191-2005) notched 23 points to lead the effort and Fausto Moussa supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Even 22 points by Thiago Roca (191-2004) did not help to save the game for San Lorenzo. Instituto have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain ninth position with 15-10 record. San Lorenzo at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 14 games lost. Instituto will play against Zarate (#17) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. San Lorenzo will play against San Martin in Corrientes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Eighteenth-ranked Gimnasia CR (5-22) gave a tough game to fifteenth ranked San Martin (10-21) in Comodoro Rivadavia on Saturday. The visitors from Corrientes managed to secure only two-point victory 90-88. However their fans expected easier game. The best player for the winners was Mateo Rearte who scored 23 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Jose Copesky produced 30 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Gimnasia CR's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. San Martin have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fifteenth position with 10-21 record. Defending champion Gimnasia dropped to the nineteenth place with 22 games lost. Penarol managed to beat San Lorenzo on the road 79-64. Ferro was defeated by Instituto on its own court 73-79. Olimpico was beaten by Quimsa in Santiago del Estero 81-73. Obras won against San Martin at home 87-71. Obera unfortunately lost to Boca Jrs. on the opponent's court 86-91.
