La Liga Round 9 (Regular Season): Obras beat Boca Juniors in a derby game

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in La Liga. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Buenos Aires: Obras (#7) and Boca Juniors (#3). Obras (4-2) won against visiting Boca Juniors (4-3) 93-81. The best player for the winners was American guard Ty Sabin (190-1994, college: Ripon) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Federico Zezular (198-2001) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Obras' coach Guido Fabbris used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Agustin Barreiro (205-1999) who recorded 24 points and 6 rebounds. Obras moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Boca Juniors dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Obras' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Buenos Aires to the arena Ferro.

Obera will play on the road against Atenas (#6) in Cordoba and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Leader Instituto delivered the sixth victory on Thursday night. This time they beat 17th ranked Gimnasia (2-4) 85-70 in Cordoba. Keylan Boone stepped up and scored 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Instituto's coach Diego Vadell allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was Anyelo Cisneros with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Instituto have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-2 record. Gimnasia lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifteenth position with four games lost. They share it with Olimpico.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Racing Ch. defeated Olimpico in Chivilcoy 86-82. La Union beat Argentino at home 98-80. Winless Platense was destroyed by Union on the opponent's court 93-66. Atenas unfortunately lost to Gimnasia in a home game 62-64.
The best stats of 9th round was 15 points and 8 rebounds by Nakye Sanders of Atenas.



Obera - Argentino 87-89

Argentino can celebrate finally their first win this season after six consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as they edged much higher ranked Obera (2-2) on the road game in Obera 89-87. American forward Will Vorhees (203-1995, college: NDC) answered with 21 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and Agustin Brocal (191-1997) added 18 points in the effort for Obera. Argentino maintains eighteenth place with 1-6 record. Obera at the other side dropped to the fourteenth position with two games lost. Argentino will play against higher ranked San Martin (#9) in Corrientes in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Obera will play on the road against Atenas (#6) in Cordoba and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The best for the losing side was American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Von Cameron Davis (196-2001, college: Kent St., agency: JCK Sports Group) scored 14 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. La Union moved-up to second place.
