Top ranked Instituto (7-3) recorded its third loss in Cordoba on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by second ranked La Union (7-4) 83-71. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Instituto. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. La Union dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Instituto's 26. The best player for the winners was American guard Brandon Beavers (188-2001, college: Lawrence Tech) who scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import guard Tomas Nuno (196-1998, college: CMU) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Keylan Boone (203-2000, college: UNLV) who recorded 15 points and 7 rebounds. La Union maintains second position with 7-4 record having just one point less than leader Instituto. Instituto at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. La Union will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Instituto will play at home against Ferro and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Boca Juniors (6-5) against seventh ranked Penarol (5-3) on Thursday night. Visiting Boca Juniors was defeated by Penarol in Mar del Plata 89-78. It was a good game for point guard Facundo Vazquez (185-1998) who led his team to a victory with 27 points and 7 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Luciano Guerra contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Penarol's coach Leonardo Costa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international Agustin Barreiro (205-1999) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds for Boca Juniors. Penarol have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Obras and Obera. Defending champion Boca Juniors dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. Penarol will play against San Martin (#10) in Corrientes in the next round. Boca Juniors will play at home against Regatas (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
We should mention about the upset which took place in La Banda, where 13th ranked Union (4-5) was outleveled in a road game by sixteenth ranked Olimpico (3-6) 96-70 on Friday. Worth to mention a great performance of Jose Ascanio who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The best for the losing side was Yeferson Guerra with 16 points. Olimpico maintains sixteenth position with 3-6 record, which they share with Racing Ch. Loser Union SF dropped to the twelfth place with five games lost. They share the position with Gimnasia. Olimpico will meet higher ranked Obera (#6) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Union will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Tomas Spano (183-1998) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and the former international forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) who added 15 points during the contest. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was point guard Santiago Ferreyra (188-1997) with 15 points and 6 assists and American forward Nakye Sanders (202-1997, college: Towson) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds.
