La Liga Argentina Round 50 (Regular Season): San Isidro keeps a leadership position

The Regular Season in La Liga Argentina is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 8 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked San Isidro as it allowed them to take a leadership position. San Isidro defeated second-ranked Barrio Parque in San Francisco 88-77. 25 personal fouls committed by Barrio Parque helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was swingman Manuel Lambrisca (192-1997) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Luciano Ortiz (199-1999) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Blas Lino (199-2002) produced 17 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Isidro have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Barrio Parque at the other side dropped to the third place with nine games lost. Barrio Parque will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. San Isidro will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Comunicaciones in Mercedes.
Important game to mention about took place in La Plata. Second ranked C.Entrerriano (20-7) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked GELP (16-10) 88-86 on Thursday evening. Forward Aquiles Montani (190-1994) orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds. Nicolas Reynoso contributed with 15 points for the winners. Forward Juan Boffelli (197-1998) replied with 21 points for GELP. C.Entrerriano keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Provincial. GELP lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Lanus. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in between Suardi and Jujuy. Fourth ranked Suardi (17-11) got a very close victory on the road over 7th ranked Jujuy (15-13). Suardi managed to escape with a 3-point win 87-84 on Thursday evening. Pablo Martinez scored 21 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Ramiro Stehli responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Suardi have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 17-11 record. Loser Jujuy keeps the seventh place with 13 games lost. Suardi will meet at home Comunicaciones (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Jujuy will play against Santa Paula (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rest of the games of round 50 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Dep Viedma was defeated by Pico FC in General Pico 73-65. Colon was beaten by Comunicaciones at home 92-100. Hindu lost to Estudiantes T. on the opponent's court 74-78. Racing A. managed to outperform Quilmes in a home game 79-64. U.Mar del Plata recorded a loss to Provincial on the road 95-90. Rivadavia crushed Independiente on its own court 106-84. Santa Paula smashed Salta Basket in Galvez 97-65.
The best stats of 50th round was 8 points and 7 rebounds by Camilo Gomez of Santa Paula.



Pico FC - Dep Viedma 73-65

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Dep Viedma's (15-12) road loss to seventh ranked Pico FC (16-9) 65-73 on Thursday. Forward Rodrigo Sanchez (200-1989) scored 17 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Latraius Mosley (198-1990, college: Life) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Pico FC players scored in double figures. Guard Luciano Caceres (180-2001) responded with 16 points and point guard Nicolas Paletta (179-1987) scored 9 points and 4 assists. Dep Viedma's coach Guillermo Bogliacino rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pico FC have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Loser Dep Viedma keeps the eighth position with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

No shocking result in a game in Santa Fe where twelfth ranked Comunicaciones (11-12) defeated 16th ranked Colon (8-17) 100-92 on Thursday. Comunicaciones outrebounded Colon 39-26 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Spanish-Venezuelan swingman Franger Pirela (187-2002) scored 24 points to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Tomas Allende (190-2002) chipped in 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Five Comunicaciones players scored in double figures. Swingman Hans Ponce (192-1999) responded with 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and guard Federico Gonzalez (183-1988) scored 24 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Comunicaciones have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Colon SF dropped to the fifteenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Rocamora. Comunicaciones will meet higher ranked Suardi (#4) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Colon will play against Hindu (#15) in Cordoba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes T. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Villa S.Martin. Hindu lost fifth consecutive game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Juan Bellozas (195-1993) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds and Panamanian point guard Guillermo Navarro (181-2003) scored 18 points. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. U.Mar del Plata's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivadavia moved-up to thirteenth place. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Salta Basket (15-11) was crushed at home by sixth ranked Santa Paula (16-11) 97-65 on Friday. Santa Paula dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Salta Basket's 28. They outrebounded Salta Basket 43-27 including a 32-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Santa Paula shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. Ecuadorian forward Joseph Caicedo (196-2004) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Walter Puebla (193) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds during the contest.
