The most exciting game of round 3 in the BEBL took place in San Pedro. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of Tiger Sharks (1-3) to Western Ballaz (1-1) 88-86 on Sunday evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Western Ballaz made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American swingman Mark Gordon (196, college: Keiser) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. James Weatherspoon contributed with 28 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American Richard Laku (206-1997, college: CSUSB) answered with 32 points and 7 rebounds for Tiger Sharks. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Western Ballaz are looking forward to face Defenders in Belize City in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Tiger Sharks will play at home against Dream Ballers (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of Trojans (1-2) against Running Rebels (2-2) on Friday night. Visiting Trojans were defeated by Running Rebels in Belize City 76-65. It was a great evening for the former international Brian White (196-1995, college: Wesley) who led his team to a victory scoring 9 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. James Stanback helped adding 28 points and 5 steals. Running Rebels' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was guard Jevaughn McKenzie with 19 points. Running Rebels' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Belize City .
The game in Dangriga was also quite interesting. Hurricanes (3-0) played at the court of Dream Ballers (0-2). Hurricanes managed to secure a 5-point victory 93-88 on Saturday. It was an exceptional evening for Tyrie Orosco who led the winners and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Jonathan Guzman came up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists for Dream Ballers in the defeat. Hurricanes will meet at home Trojans (#5) in the next round. Dream Ballers will play against Tiger Sharks in San Pedro and hope to get finally their first victory.
