Univ.Sucre - Pichincha 53-87 Libobasquet top team - Pichincha (13-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Univ.Sucre (3-10) 87-53. Pichincha dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Univ.Sucre's 18. They outrebounded Univ.Sucre 57-35 including a 46-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of Diego Santana who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 22 rebounds and Cuban guard Adriano Barreras (186-1989) who added 24 points during the contest. At the losing side American guard Haylen Washington (196-1994, college: Co.Georgia) responded with 23 points and 9 rebounds and Amado Ledezma scored 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pichincha have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. Univ.Sucre at the other side keeps the seventh place with ten games lost. Pichincha will play against La Salle (#6) in Tarija in the next round where they are favorite. Univ.Sucre will play against San Simon and hopes to get back on the winning track. Second ranked Leones managed to get a 6-point victory 71-65. Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to San Simon's 32. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 7 rebounds. Argentinian forward Norberto Stucky (198-1994) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Argentinian power forward Gianfranco Sinconi (204-1994) replied with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 11 rebounds and American guard Akil McClain (188-1997, college: IU Kokomo) added 12 points in the effort for San Simon. Leones maintains second position with 11-3 record having just two points less than leader Pichincha. San Simon at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. Saracho made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game, while UNITEP only scored two points from the stripe. Strangely UNITEP outrebounded Saracho 41-28 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by Argentinian forward Facundo Sanz (197-1996, agency: BIG) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and Argentinian power forward Nicolas Gimenez (203-1994) supported him with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Four Saracho players scored in double figures. Saracho's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 21 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals by Argentinian Nicolas Rodriguez did not help to save the game for UNITEP. Eric Aparecido added 22 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Saracho have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. UNITEP lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. This time they lost on the road their 14th consecutive match to sixth ranked La Salle (7-6) 125-69 on Saturday evening. La Salle dominated down low during the game scoring 98 of its points in the paint compared to Tenis' 42. La Salle forced 24 Tenis turnovers and outrebounded them 52-29 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Tenis' players. The winners were led by Argentinian Joaquin Gamazo (198-1991) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 29 points, 25 rebounds and 4 assists (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and American forward Antonio Bivins (198-1992, college: UMass Lowell) supported him with 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (on 16-of-17 shooting from the field). Four La Salle players scored in double figures. La Salle's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 22 points by Martin Rios did not help to save the game for Tenis. Facundo Moran added 13 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. La Salle maintains sixth position with 7-6 record. Loser Tenis still closes the standings with 14 games lost. La Salle will meet league's leader Pichincha on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Tenis will play against UNITEP (#8) and hope to get finally their first victory.
