The most surprising game was the first loss of Kinwa (5-1) in Oruro on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Carl A-Z (3-3) 94-89. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Kinwa. Carl A-Z made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Kinwa 57-44 including 19 on the offensive glass. Swingman Felipe Vedia (-1999) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 8 rebounds. Jesus Virhuez contributed with 16 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Axel Veizaga (182-1996) answered with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Kinwa. Kinwa's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Carl A-Z moved-up to fifth place. Kinwa at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Carl A-Z will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kinwa will play at home against CAN Oruro and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Potosi: Leones (#3) and Calero (#7). Calero was defeated at home 54-60 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The former international guard Diego Olguin (186-1995) stepped up and scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Mauro Zubiaurre chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Esteban Covarrubias (190-2001) responded with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Leones maintains third place with 4-2 record behind leader Kinwa. Calero at the other side keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Calero will play at home against Pichincha (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Leones (4-2) which played road game in Sucre against their close opponent Univ.Sucre (3-2). Third ranked Leones managed to get a 6-point victory 84-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Univ.Sucre. Mauro Zubiaurre nailed a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Rene Calvo came up with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds for Univ.Sucre in the defeat. Leones maintains third place with 4-2 record behind leader Kinwa. Loser Univ.Sucre dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Univ.Sucre will play against Pichincha (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 5 winless CAN Oruro was beaten by Calero on the road 72-68.



Calero - CAN Oruro 72-68

The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventh ranked Calero's (1-5) home victory over bottom-ranked CAN Oruro (0-5) in Potosi 72-68 on Monday. Calero outrebounded CAN Oruro 40-29 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Esteban Covarrubias (190-2001) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Argentinian forward Matias Arias (202-1994, agency: Gulf Coast Hoops) accounted for 10 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Calero players scored in double figures. Point guard Sergio Herbas (-2003, agency: Gulf Coast Hoops) came up with 22 points and Ruben Calvetty (-2001) added 16 points respectively for CAN Oruro in the defeat. Calero maintains seventh place with 1-5 record. It was CAN Oruro's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Calero will meet at home higher ranked Pichincha (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. CAN Oruro will play against the league's leader Kinwa and will have a slim chance for a victory.
