NBB Round 15 (Regular Season): Bauru beat UniFacisa by two after a very close game

NBB is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 15 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 15 in the NBB took place in Bauru. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked UNIFACISA (13-8) to seventh ranked Paschoalotto/Bauru (14-8) 91-89 in the game for the sixth place. Bauru made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Dontrell Brite (175-1994, college: Mount Olive) who led his team to a victory with 31 points and 7 assists. The former international guard Alex Garcia (190-1980, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 5 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. Panamanian-American point guard Trevor Gaskins (188-1989, college: La Tech, agency: Pro Sports) answered with 22 points and 7 assists for UniFacisa. Paschoalotto/Bauru have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. UniFacisa at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Bauru will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. UniFacisa will play at home against Sao Jose (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
NBB top team - Minas (20-3) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighteenth ranked Brasilia (3-17) 111-68. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Renan Lenz (207-1990, college: Utah) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Germerson Barbosa helped adding 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American guard Thomas Cooper (196-1992, college: Calgary) with 20 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Minas have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 20-3 record. Brasilia lost tenth consecutive game. They keep the eighteenth position with 17 games lost. They share it with Mogi. Minas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brasilia will play on the road against Pinheiros (#12) in Sao Paulo and hopes to get back on the winning track.

It was a quality performance for Luciano Gonzalez who led the winners and scored 22 points and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Minas' coach Leonardo Costa used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Daviyon Draper came up with 16 points and 7 rebounds for Cerrado in the defeat. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Minas. They maintain first place with 20-3 record. Cerrado lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the seventeenth position with 15 games lost. Minas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cerrado will play against Corinthians (#11) in Sao Paulo and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: Cearense was beaten by Sesi Franca on the road 81-75. Bauru won against Cearense on its own court 93-88. Caxias do Sul managed to outperform Botafogo in a road game 82-76. Mogi recorded a loss to Corinthians at home 70-77. U.Corinthians defeated Botafogo on the opponent's court 78-77. Vasco da Gama beat Caxias do Sul in a home game 78-73.
The most impressive performance of 15th round was 11 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists by Caue Freitas of Vasco da Gama.




Bauru - UniFacisa 91-89

Sesi Franca - Cearense 81-75

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Vivo/Franca (18-4) beat 9th ranked Fortaleza (10-11) in Sao Paulo 81-75 on Tuesday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. It was an exceptional evening for international center Lucas Silva (208-1995) who led the winners and scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. The former international power forward Marcio Santos (204-2002) accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Vivo/Franca's coach Helinho Garcia used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard William Buford (196-1990, college: Ohio St.) came up with 18 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import swingman Dexter McClanahan (193-1997, college: Nicholls St.) added 20 points respectively for Cearense in the defeat. Four Cearense players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Vivo/Franca. Sesi Franca moved-up to second place. Cearense lost their fourth game in a row.
