Paulista Round 13 of Regular Season

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in Paulista. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The biggest surprise of round 13 took place in Sao Paulo where guest Sesi/Franca (#1) beat lower ranked Corinthians (#2) by 7 points 80-73 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Corinthians. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The former international point guard Georginho de Paula (197-1996) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American guard David Jackson (192-1982, college: Penn State) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Davaunta Thomas (196-1995, college: UAFS) produced 24 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sesi/Franca maintains first place with 10-3 record. Corinthians at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Sesi/Franca are looking forward to face Mogi (#4) in Mogi das Cruzes in the next round. Corinthians will play on the road against Bauru and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Important game to mention about took place in Sao Jose. Sixth ranked Mogi (8-4) saved a 2-point derby victory on the road edging 3rd placed Sao Jose (8-6) 85-83 in the game for the fourth place. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international center Dikembe Andre (206-1999) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. Raffael Mencarini contributed with 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. Douglas Silva (202-1998) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds for Sao Jose. Mogi moved-up to fourth place. Sao Jose at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Pinheiros. Mogi will play against league's leader Sesi/Franca in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sao Jose will have a break next round.
A very close game took place in Sao Paulo between Paulistano and Pinheiros. Fifth ranked Paulistano (9-5) got a very close home victory over 4th placed Pinheiros (8-6). Paulistano managed to escape with a 2-point win 107-105 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Pinheiros. Lucas Siewert stepped up and scored 31 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Paulistano's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side David Sloan responded with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Paulistano have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Loser Pinheiros dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Sao Jose. Paulistano will meet Rio Claro (#7) on the road in the next round. Pinheiros will play against Mandic Basket in Limeira and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 13 Sorocabana was defeated by Rio Claro in a road game 78-61. Osasco was beaten by Mandic Basket at home 89-96.

Rio Claro - Sorocabana 78-61

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Sorocabana's (3-11) road loss to eighth ranked Rio Claro (7-7) 61-78 on Sunday. Rio Claro made 24-of-26 free shots (92.3 percent) during the game. Guard Gemadinha Sacco (182-1997) stepped up and scored 24 points and 5 assists for the winners and power forward Murilo Alves (208-2002) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side point guard Lucas Monteiro (183-2001) responded with 23 points and Danilo Penteado (199-1999) scored 18 points. Sorocabana's coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Rio Claro moved-up to seventh place. Sorocabana lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. They share it with Osasco and Mandic Basket. Rio Claro will meet at home higher ranked Paulistano (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sorocabana will play against Osasco (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Paulistano managed to escape with a 2-point win 107-105 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Pinheiros. Paulistano made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game, while Pinheiros only scored eight points from the stripe. Paulistano had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Osasco - Mandic Basket 89-96

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Mandic Basket (3-11) defeated on the road 9th ranked Osasco (3-11) 96-89 on Tuesday. Mandic Basket dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Osasco's 28. They outrebounded Osasco 41-25 including 31 on the defensive glass. Mandic Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Stan Scott (193-1998, college: MSSU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 9 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and Leonardo Jacon (199-1996, college: Southeastern) chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side Matheus Weber (194-2000) responded with 29 points and 6 rebounds and Argentinian guard Alejo Britos (187-1994) scored 20 points and 9 assists. Five Mandic Basket and four Osasco players scored in double figures. Mandic Basket moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Osasco and Sorocabana. Osasco lost seventh consecutive game. Mandic Basket will meet at home higher ranked Pinheiros (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Osasco will play against Sorocabana and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
