NBB Round 16 (Regular Season): Pinheiros keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Pinheiros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Pinheiros defeated 20th ranked Vasco in Sao Paulo 84-70. Pinheiros looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard David Sloan (183-1999, college: ETSU) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 assists. contributed with 12 points and 9 assists for the winners. Guard Luiz Basilio (192-1991) replied with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for Vasco. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinheiros (12-2) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Flamengo and Minas. Vasco at the other side stay at the bottom place with 14 games lost. Vasco will play next round against U.Corinthians trying to get back on the winning streak. Pinheiros will try to continue on its current victory against twelfth ranked UniFacisa in Paraiba.
The game in Sao Paulo was also worth to mention about. 5th ranked Brasilia (12-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Corinthians (10-4). Corinthians defeated Brasilia 79-66. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Elio Corazza (195-1989, college: Miami Dade CC) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 8 assists and Rafael Munford who added 10 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American point guard David Sloan (183-1999, college: ETSU) responded with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Corinthians maintains sixth position with 10-4 record. Brasilia at the other side dropped to the fourth place with four games lost. Corinthians will play against Rio Claro (#18) at home in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Brasilia will play against Mogi (#7) in Mogi das Cruzes and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Other games in round 16 were not that significant. Rio Claro was smashed by Sao Jose on the road 95-64. UniFacisa destroyed Osasco on its own court 89-70. U.Corinthians outscored Botafogo in Santa Cruz do Sul 84-61.
