Leslee Smith
GLASGOW, England, UK- Virgin Islander Leslee Smith (203-F-90, college: Nebraska) top scored with 17 points and most importantly, his efforts ensure Plymouth Raiders picked up their first win in the British Basketball League (BBL) this season on Friday, January 31, 2020 against hosts Glasgow Rocks.
Smith's heroics brought long awaited celebration to faithful Raiders fans after 8 disappointing defeats.
Positive start
An extremely positive first and second quarter put Raiders well ahead of the Rocks, however a more difficult third and fourth quarter saw both teams trading baskets.
Head Coach Paul James side managed to bring it back completely in the fourth, after a tie 64-64 with just under 5 minutes remaining, leaving both sets of fans on the edge of their seats.
It was the 3-point shot by new addition Will Neighbour with just over one minute left of the fourth that confirmed their victory, along with 5 gifted free throw shots within the last minute.
Stellar night for Smith
Smith had the honour of scoring the last bucket for Raiders, putting them 9 points in the lead and a 76-67 points win.
Smith was also among the first scorers for Raiders, who signaled early intentions of turning around their misfortunes.
Raiders' next game will be on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Plymouth Pavilions, versus Surrey Scorchers.
